Diseases in dogs

Dogs can suffer from several kinds of diseases as well as infections and need extreme care to keep them healthy. They get affected by all sorts of organisms including parasites, protozoa, viruses, bacteria and fungus. Sometimes your dog may never get healthy again if infected as some of these infestations are fatal and result in death of the animal. The best possible measure that the owner can take to safeguard the life of their dog is to keep them clean and to take them for regular medical checkups so that any disease if present can be caught early by the veterinarian and treated in its initial stages without causing much damage.

The diseases if prevalent for long term in a dog can result in end organ failure as well as several other chronic manifestations that can be life threatening both immediately as well as in the long run.

The end organ damage that can be produced by several illnesses in dogs which is life limiting is chronic renal failure in which the kidney function deteriorates and ultimately completely stops.

Many reasons for a dog to develop kidney failure include traumatic causes in which the kidneys are damaged because of a sharp decline in blood pressure as well as poisons, such as rat poison and a bacterial infection termed as leptospirosis. Other causes include some antibiotics as well as chemotherapeutic agents and fungal infections. The treatment and diagnosis of this disease is similar to that as in human beings.

The urine analysis gives an accurate picture of the extent of damage and dialysis maybe indicated in some cases.
